2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 4,600 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Looking back 34 years and counting my Blessings.

Dear God,
As I write this I am steadily approaching the Age of 34. I look back on what the past 33 years and i am forever grateful to you.

I have found Love, and lost love made love and gave love, I have been in love and out of love but as I approach 34 I have never been more assured about your perfect love for me and how you continue to love me inspite of my self.

God my thirties have been tough. I don’t feel like I have accomplished much, and I don’t think that if I died today many would remember me. Even the gifts and talents you gave me I don’t feel I have used them to their full potential. My musical career is still non existent and my business is too young to even call a business, yet still I have a lot to be thankful for.
God, thank you for…

  1. Boji…and new beginnings
  2. Lily, Sheila and Jessica and great family!
  3. thanks for Mum and Dad and how far you have brought them
  4. thanks for Kevin, he is a great little boy and I couldn’t ask for more.
  5. thank you for giving me a great voice and I hope I will be able to use it for your glory.
  6. Thanks for giving me patience to deal with the very difficult and tiresome things in my life
  7. Thanks for giving me a Job that has helped many others find work
  8. Thanks for my health, I have put on a bit of weight but, I guess in a way that is a blessing too
  9. Thank you for the cross, and thank you for your grace
  10. Thank you for 34 years of rollicking good times!

As I approach my Birthday God you know I don’t have a penny in my pocket but I am trusting you like I always have to take care of my family, and I trust that you will supply my every need according to your riches in glory.

Love always

Alfy!

PS. Boji… This one is dedicated to you, the next chapter of my story.

If I died Today…

If I died today,
I would want you to know that i loved you more than anything else in the world
I would want you to remember the good times,
The first day we met and the dress you wore
Remember the day we danced and there was no music
remember the day I cried and you were there for me
remember the day you cried and i forgave you

If i died today
i would want to say thank you
thank you for loving me in spite of myself
thank you for the day you realised i had no money and you lent me some
thank you for loving me when i was nobody and didn’t have a dime
thank you

If I died today
You would always be the one I Love, and if you ever read this you would know it’s you I am talking about.

Love Always

My top 5 Most ridiculous Post a week 2011 titles

I am trying to convince myself that my decision to join postaweek2011 was a good one. I just thank God that I opted for Postaweek2011 and not postaday2011, I most certainly would have burned out by now. Although I really think it is a good initiative from the folks at wordpress i honestly think some of the Topics they suggest are really extremely ridiculous and mind numbingly silly.  Here are my Top 5 most ridiculous Postaweek2011, and Postaday2011 topics to date. I will try and answer them like questions. just to make them seem a bit more interesting.

  1. When teleportation is finally possible, where will you beam yourself first? I will beam myself to the vault of a very rich bank, and beam myself out again a millionaire!
  2. If you could have any Job what would it be? I would want to be a banker! take a lot of risks, loose copious amounts of money, and then get everyone else to pay for my insanity!
  3. If you could live forever, would you? Why or why not? No I wouldn’t want to live for ever because I would probably be completely bored out of my head in 500 years. There is nothing new under the sun.
  4. What technology do you wish would disappear from the world? Blackberry phones, I hate blackberry phones I hate blackberry phones. I hate blackberry phones…x365. I can’t stand them I cant look at them, I can’t live with them I hate blooming ,bloody blackberries.
  5. What is your favorite sound? This one was the worst of all i wonder if anyone actually posted on this topic even if they did I doubt they got past one word!

Myths about Education and what it really takes to make it in life.

I found myself reading a comment on facebook a while ago about  two

Despite all his education Atta Mills is a lesson in Incompetence

Ghanaian women on a train, one of them was exited that she had finally got her papers or “Nkrataa” as they call it in this country. She was excited and spoke about how she would now be able to do her cleaning Job well, and was probably going to go to church to thank God for the breakthrough. When i read it  I realised how Ghanaians had been brought up believing in “papers” or documents. We are brought up believing that without a certificate from a university or some clearance from the “home office” we cannot succeed  in life and we spend thousands on useless qualifications and certificates, only to realise in the end that those documents are not going to make us or take us where we really want to be. Now don’t get me wrong, education is good, everybody should learn to read and write and by all means we need doctors and Teachers…etc. However, i will not let anyone sell me the absolute rubbish way of thinking that teaches people that education is the be all and end all of success. Rubbish!

I love a good list so let me list out some of the popular misconceptions about education and success.

    1. Firstly, there is no direct relationship between the two and if anyone begs to differ i will confidently say, the more educated you are the less likely you are to be hugely successful, unless, of course your only measure of success is education. Then again that proves my point, you suffer from mental Myopia brought on by over education.
    2. Some of the most successful people today are college and University drop outs, people like Mark Zuckerberg (facebook) and Bill Gates (microsoft). I can mention many more.
    3. Education is overated and can actually limit your creativity. Why on earth did we learn about Shakespeare and ancient Roman History?  Rubbish! you come out of school go into your first Job and you are as ignorant as the first day of school.
    4. You can make it anywhere if you have the right attitude to life. I remeber when I left the University Of Ghana a couple of years ago, back then Going abroad to find work was the thing to do  we thought the grass was greener on the other side. The fools we were! Anyway today thanks be to God some of us have still been able to etch out some sort of existence here and just as it starts getting better i hear the same old voices again saying Ghana is really good now we have to go back. Rubbish! I am staying right here until I make something of myself! No matter how good Ghana is I will stay put! I can make it here. Just watch me.
    5. In the Uk today Graduate unemployment is on the rise, because employers favour work experience, creativity and ability over worthless degrees and qualifications.

So what does it really take to make it in life? This is my answer, The right attitude, Ability, ceativity and shear tenacity.  You must also have that uncanny ability to never give up even when everyone would understand if you did. Never let any idiot tell you that because he has a PHD he knows more than you and you don’t have a chance in life, laugh at them when they tell you because you don’t have papers all you can do is cleaning, it is a defeatist Ghanaiain mentality, which is the reason why we are still srtuggling so many years after independence. It is because of this same thinking that incompetent politicians like President Atta mills of Ghana, are actually making things a lot worse. We thought we were hiring a professor to be our president, look what he did to our Ecomini, sorry our ecomlemle eii Our Ecomini is now resilient! President Omama Paa!

Crazy things that I did when a was a child. And a couple of random confessions.

I must admit i have lived a blessed life with a great family of caring people who cared about me

    Alfred learning to walk

and my well being, in spite of this, i still managed to  ”not” live up to their expectations and be naughty. Here is a short list of some, just some of the things i did when they weren’t looking. I believe i can no longer be held responsible for these crimes. I reserve the juiciest ones for later when i become rich!

    1. Firstly i want to apologise to my big sisters lily and Sheila. I ate the heads of those un-cooked bread men when i discovered them hidden, it gave me an awful stomach ache but it was worth it. You wouldn’t play with me.
    2. I also ate the Kenkey and the sardine they left out for the dog. It looked good and besides the dog had really pissed me off at some point I don’t remember why.
    3. Jessica, I stole the savings we had in the drawers and I used it to buy” kulekule” i was convinced you were stealing my share, but i did share it with you( the kulekule) because I felt guilty.
    4. Mum and Dad i never went for the Chemistry classes you paid for, i used the cash for pocket money because you never gave me any and also all the money you gave me for text books I used to buy Nike trainers.
    5. I also cut the drying line when i tried to set up the house help, but it went horribly wrong and the clothes fell on top of me. I spent the rest of the day outside of the house until lunchtime when i was hungry and could not care about the beatings, just beat me but give me some food!
    6. Mum, Dad, I also used to steal your car on weekends when you guys went to funerals. this was very useful as i needed to maintain my “high profile lifestyle”
    7. Lily, thanks for sharing your Mitsubishi with me when i was going to write my entrance exams i was really motivated by it, and i did really well because of you, i didn’t even have a licence!
    8. I killed several hundred lizards, and with the help of my cousin crucified one and stuffed it with stones.
    9. I never learnt my timetables. Still dont have a clue even till today! but i did maths up to my second year in University!
    10. I still count my fingers when no one is watching!

That’s enough confessions for one day. love you all!

    love always

    A Letter to God (Part2)

    Dear God,

who came first chicken or egg? Before I continue from where I left of the other day. I want to know why you don’t speak to us directly any more? It’s really frustrating you know. God, I am sure you know that Skype is free and its really good, I can call anyone anywhere in the world for free I’ll inbox you my user name so we can chat ok? The only people who claim to hear your voice these days are the Pastors and Prophets and now they are charging us for the service!” Come and sow a seed for your blessing” they tell us while  flogging anointing oil to the highest bidder.

God we have sown and sown until our very wallets have bled from all the sowing. Yet my country Ghana, remains Heavily in debt and broke.( By the way, thanks for the oil we have recently discovered, all things being equal the politicians will make sure none of the money ever reaches the average Ghanaian.) the money that some of your so called churches are making today is impressive. God, you need to come and see this for yourself the men of God have stopped preaching salvation and are now preaching prosperity, a much more profitable message, by any standards even you God almighty will be impressed at the range of posh cars your “Representatives are driving”. I am sure you will not be upset if the offering never gets to the poor and needy since as your son Jesus Christ said and I quote “we will always have the poor and needy with us…”

These Days in  Ghana, as you may already have picked up (being the omnipresent God) “men of God” are amongst the richest in society, that is definately a sign of the times and I am convinced based on this evidence alone that you are coming soon! at least by the end of the year.

Now let me ask my last few questions before you completely lose your patience with me. God, are we alone? are aliens Real? and are you an alien? God where were you on September 11th? and is it wrong to question you?

Finally, God  this is my prayer to you this year, that you give everyone who reads this blog good health, and you reserve a double portion of your blessings for those who post this link on their facebook pages and share it with their friends. God may good things happen to all those who subscribe to this blog and to all those who comment on this blog after reading give them immeasurable wealth and happiness.

    Love Always
